POPS
by: Peter Rasmussen, Irhøj Lydproduktion, Danmark
ELECTRIC BASS
by: Bill, USA
Just a quick note to say that I enjoyed your web site. I used to do quite
a lot of engineering in the late 70's & 80's but got in to Harvard and never got back into it. For a great bass sound use your
favorite mike at 3 feet from high end/middy bass amp with 10/1 ratio.
Then another mike on subsonic amp at 20 feet with 20/1 ratio. Use a
scope to get mikes in phase & lay down on two tracks in phase. This
sounds complicated for bass, but the sound is easy to manage for any
kind of mix. Good luck. WHW3.
ELECTRIC BASS
by: Naoyoshi Matsuyama, Japan
This method was discovered by my master "Dr.Utusnomiya"
It not need DI & bass amplifier, only microphone !
You place a C-414 between front pickup and bass-guitar neck joint.
Distance is at 15-20 cm from strings.
This sound is fine and powerful.
But this method has a few problem.
The player can move little and needs flumask !
FRENCHHORN
by: Bjarne Hansen
A good way of getting a nice warm hornsound in an overdub-situation in a regular recording studio:
Have the hornplayer play against a wooden wall from a distance of 3 - 4 meters and place the mic 20 - 40 cm
from the wall.........facing the wall. I know it sounds weird but it really works !!
ACOUSTIC BASS
by: Bjarne Hansen
If you mount a B+K 4006 vertically in the bridge-hole (you can either use rubberbands or mikebox-foam to make
the mic stay in place) you will get a very true & precise bass-sound with the full sustain of the strings. No more DI'ed
line-signals !!!
Mail your tips & tricks to bjarne@oneonone.dk and I will publish them on these pages for all to benefit from. Thanks!
